The Flexfit Snapback is a panelled baseball hat that gets its name from the strap or snapback at the rear of the hat. This is used to adjust the snapback to the wearer’s head size, and makes a recognisable snapping sound when applied.
The snapback style of baseball cap has a long history.

The early days

The earliest version can be traced back to 1849 when the Brooklyn Excelsiors baseball team started wearing their snapback baseball hats.

Pop culture

Though the snapback baseball hats were available for a long time after the 1800s, it was not until the late 1980s that they became very popular. This was largely due to hip-hop and rap artists adopting the snapback hat and made it part of their identity. Icons like Ice Cube and Dr. Drewere rarely seen without their snapback hats.

Pop artists in other genres also love baseball hats. Beyoncé and Rhianna are often pictured with their snapback hats on, and Jay-Z and Kanye West proudly wear theirs. Mac Miller even wrote a song dedicated to the snapback, containing the lyrics:

“Used to wear baggy clothes / now my clothes tailored / Used to wear a fitted cap / now I rock a snapback.”

Sports

Sports teams and sports stars have had a key part in making snapback hats popular. In sports where players could not wear them while playing, they were often seen on television wearing their snapback caps in after game interviews. Many sponsors took advantage of this by paying sports stars to wear their branded snapback caps on camera. Basketball icon Michael Jordan wore his Gatorade branded snapback when seen by millions of fans in an interview after his shot meant his team won the NBA finals.

Wide popularity

The snapback hat has become almost universally popular and has spread beyond the sports scene and celebrity culture. Nowadays, everyone wears the snapback, so the style is no longer associated with any particular gender, class or culture.

The Flexfit Snapback

The baseball players of the 1800s who wore snapbacks could not have dreamt that nearly two centuries later, they would still be popular. Flexfit has taken the classic snapback style and brought it into the 21st Century with the use of technology that keeps the visor in shape and keeps the head cool and dry in hot weather.

The early wearers of snapback hats were not aware of environmental issues, but now scientists have explained that the ecosystem of the earth is fragile and can be damaged through pollution and carbon emissions. At Flexfit, we have taken notice and made sure that our range of Flexfit Snapback baseball hats is made with materials that exceed international environmental standards and use manufacturing processes that do not harm the planet.

The Flexfit Premium Curved Visor Snapback is a top quality hay with premium wool blend fabric and a curved visor with distinctive eight rows of stitching. It is available a number of attractive colours.
