How do I know which baseball caps fit me?
Baseball caps are more popular than ever. From their roots in American sport, they’re now worn by people at work, on the streets and on the catwalk. They’re available as fitted caps in a range of different sizes, as well as in adjustable sizes with a snapback or side closure. Ensuring the right fit is all-important to how your cap looks. But how do you go about making sure you have the right baseball cap?
How should a baseball cap fit?
A baseball cap that fits well should sit above your ears and the bill should rest around the middle of your forehead. The crown should sit comfortably on the top of your head with a little space remaining between your head and the cap. The cap should be secure enough on your head not to fly off in a gust of wind but it shouldn’t be so tight that it leaves a mark on your forehead. A baseball cap should never feel so tight that it’s constricting. In fact, you should be able to spin your cap around on your head so it can be worn facing forward or backwards.
What size baseball cap do I need?
Finding the right size baseball cap is essential when it comes to maximising how it looks, how comfortable it is, and also for practicality. A well-fitting baseball cap is easy to wear, and you’ll be able to enjoy it for years to come. Over time, your baseball cap will soften and to some degree shape itself to your head. A cap that may feel a little tight initially will become more comfortable with time.
Many baseball caps come in a single size and allow for adjustment, such as the YP Classics Retro Trucker Cap. With a snapback closure, it can be adjusted for comfort, making it a great choice for most head sizes.
How to measure your head for baseball caps
If you’re looking for the perfect baseball cap, then finding the right fit is important. A well-fitting cap will fit your head perfectly, and you won’t need to be continually adjusting it to try and make it sit better. Even when a hat is labelled ‘one size’, it won’t always fit every head. Therefore, it’s important to take a measurement of your head before you make a purchase.
Once you’ve measured your head you can then consult our size chart to find the perfect hat for you.
Take a measuring tape, and then beginning about 1 inch (or 2.5cm) above your ear, carefully wrap it around your head until it overlaps. This is your head circumference measurement. If you don’t have a measuring tape, you can use a piece of string and a ruler. Wrap the string around the circumference of your head, and then measure the length of string used against a ruler.
It’s important to remember that having measured your head once, you will still need to consult a manufacturer’s size chart before making a purchase. Different brands use different measurements for their sizing. There can be variations depending on which manufacturer made the hat.
Baseball caps for larger heads
If your head is larger than average you should still be able to find a cap that fits comfortably and looks great. In the Flexfit range, caps that come in L/XL and XXL sizes are available.
The Flexfit Melange Cap is available in both L/XL sizes, and the Flexfit Wooly Combed Cap captures classic design and is available in all sizes ranging from XS/S to XXL.
One-size caps will fit most heads, and adjustable snapbacks allow you to modify how the cap fits on yours. Our YP Classics Recycled Retro Trucker Cap is a classic style constructed from six panels and made from recycled material so it’s better for the environment. It also looks great whatever your head size.
Another alternative is the Yupoong ® Adjustables Curved cap. With its distinctive bandana-style tie, it can be adjusted to fit comfortably on a wide variety of head sizes.
Baseball caps for small heads
If you have a smaller head then your choice of baseball cap may be slightly more limited, similar to if your head is larger than average.
That doesn’t mean that there aren’t a great range of caps available, and most one-size caps will fit with a little adjustment. If you’re an adult with a particularly small head, then hats in youth sizes might be an option.
For most people with small heads, small size caps should fit and some of them allow for further adjustment. There’s an extensive range of small size caps available in our shop including the Yupoong Adjustable Classics Dad cap and the YP Classics Premium Snapback Cap being two great examples.
